NAME: Akane Kurashiki
AGE: 21
CANON: Zero Escape
CANON HISTORY: http://zeroescape.wikia.com/wiki/Akane_Kurashiki
CANON PERSONALITY:
warning: 999 spoilers, mentions of death, gore, and violence in general.
note for the mods: this is a reapp!
everything here is the same as it once was. the only minor difference is in her au history with assumed cr.
her memories will only be from 999!
When we first meet Akane she appears to others as a thoughtful, sincere and friendly girl. She never wants to leave anyone behind and thinks everyone can be friends if they try. The creator himself says that Akane is this sort of girl. Akane Kurashiki is a sophisticated individual who can be serious at times. This aspect of her isn't too surprising when you learn she was raised as a Japanese woman. Her surface traits aren't necessarily a lie, but there's a much deeper aspect to them as well. In reality, she's quite the trickster and a mastermind.
Akane's intellect and sharp mind sets her apart from the others. She thinks of life on a much larger scale than a commoner. Perhaps her strange though process is what made her an outcast when she was little. She wasn't popular with the boys nor did she have many friends. Akane had grown used to being left alone with her thoughts. Eventually she developed a fondness for science and quantum physics. Her vast amount of knowledge shows during the Nonary games. She had often spoke of conspiracy theories or complex ideas. It wasn't all that interesting to the others, but for her it was.
No matter what timeline she's in Akane can be a bit emotional. She ends up hysterical whenever corpses are found. Everyone in her group believes that her reactions are understandable. On the other hand, they wonder why they aren't freaking out the way she is. Akane's capable of feeling sympathy for people she's not even all that close to. Her sense of empathy and sympathy are quite strong even towards strangers. Her overly emotional heart could be one of her weaknesses. It's been a strong trait of hers every since she was a child.
Her views on life and morals tend to fall on the grey side of the spectrum. Akane wouldn't hesitate to kill a person in order to achieve her own goals. She's willing to cross certain lines where others would hesitate. We do see her mercilessly kidnap others for her own gains. Over the course of the series she ends up having a lot of blood on her hands. Sometimes the blood that's meant to be on her hands ends up on another person. This happens when she manipulates Ace into killing three different people. She can be rather cold and cunning for someone who appears to be demure.
At times, Akane's personality may seem a bit contradictory. After all, how could someone who appears to be trustworthy do something unforgivable? Akane does want her friends to trust her explicitly, even if she is fooling them to a certain extent. To her, being a trickster is a necessary evil. If she wasn't able to trick her friends into entering the Nonary game, then she couldn't punish the people responsible for creating it to begin with. Of course, no two wrongs make a right, but for Akane she goes to great lengths to make it so.
In 999 Akane's goal was self preservation. At a young age was doomed to die inside an incinerator where she would burn to death. By accessing something known as the "morphogenetic field" she was able to obtain information necessary to save her life. While her wishes may be simple and understandable, her methods are not. She makes use of time travel, psychology, manipulation, and science in order to save herself. Though naturally none of this would have been possible without the help of her family and friends. She's specially close to Aoi and Junpei.
Her relationship with Junpei is somewhat special. She's had a crush on him for a very long time. Whenever Akane comes close to death she tells him her true feelings. Akane's feelings aren't difficult to notice. Lotus seems to have spotted her affection for him instantly. Subsequently, Akane will try to look good just to impress him. It's originally the reason why she died to begin with. Akane fell into a trap while searching for the gift she received. Junpei's kindness is one of the greatest treasures she's ever received from a person.
Another interesting thing to learn about Akane is that she can easily fool others. She tricked the group into thinking her bracelet had the number "6" when in reality it's a "9". No one caught onto her until it was too late. Akane's crafty for a girl her age. To a lesser extent, Akane did manage to fool Junpei into thinking she was discussing sex. Seriously though? Akane was talking about drowning making it an awkward conversation. This girl has no problem raising peoples hopes up, only to crush them if it's a harmless prank.
On a more minor note, Akane does believe in things like santa, curses, that ufos live on the moon, and conspiracy theories. She's more childish than she lets on at times. Is she a bit of a weirdo? Perhaps. Strange habits tend to develop at an early age. This was especially true for Akane.
Overall, Akane is a complex character with shady views on life. She appears to others as a trustworthy girl. That only touches the surface of her character and not everyone's aware of the truth. At her core, she's kind of cold and cunning. It's surprising to learn this about her until you discover what she's been through. Her past experiences have shaped her into the current Akane.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Knowledge - She's studied many scientific theories to a great extent. Akane's an avid reader, someone who can pull facts out of her mind almost instantly. Her strength lies in time-travel theory and quantum physics.
Esper - In this canon, people who can access the morphogenetic field are called espers. Akane does fall into this group as she can access knowledge outside of view. Technically speaking, there are two types of Espers. The first type is a transmitter and the second type is a receiver. Akane's more of a transmitter type. She can send information she receives to another individual with the same powers. Naturally, this power shouldn't come into play but it's important enough to note.

PHYSICAL DIFFERENCES: There's a burn bruise on her left arm from the accident she was involved in. She keeps her hair in this style while she's in recolle. Otherwise, everything remains the same physically.
AU HISTORY: Akane Kurashiki is a girl who was originally born and raised in Japan. She was an inquisitive child - one who found interest in even strange things. Many of her peers at her elementary school were afraid to approach her. Akane was often alone and didn't have much friends. Instead of befriending normal people, she befriended a rabbit. Her happy days continued until her parents died of old age and poor health.
For a while, Akane was in shock. She wouldn't stop crying until her brother decided to take care of her. The two siblings had a difficult time managing without the assistance of a parent. This went on for a few years. Not that it could be helped, after all Akane was just a child. It wasn't long until Akane herself matured to lessen the burden on her brother. She researched for ways to improve their life style. One method in particular piqued her interest. Akane heard of a university where she could study sciences and apply for a good education.
From here on in, Akane became obsessed with scientific books so she could pass with good grades. The only thing she wanted was for her and her brother to be happy. Of course, achieving happiness wasn't easy for her. There were many difficult trials ahead. Akane and her sibling pitched their money together so they could buy a trip to Recolle. Unfortunately, the gas malfunctioned during her flight and there was a fire. Akane was caught inside blaze, traumatizing her further. Now she's grown especially wary of ships, planes, any method of travel that isn't immediately safe. She considered herself lucky for surviving such a terrible incident.
Well, since Akane finally made it to Recolle she figured that she should make the most of it. At first, she had some difficulty blending into her surroundings. Her Japanese upbringing and style stood out often. That was when Akane decided to change her looks in order to fit in more. Who would want to be friends with someone who can't even dress up well? That questions entirely debatable, but the point stands that Akane didn't want to draw too much attention to herself. She slowly grew more accustomed to how a student should behave and act.
After that she managed to get a job and live by herself because her brother couldn't make it also. Her sibling is alive and managing himself back in Japan. Thankfully, Akane makes a living through minimum wage and studies medical science to support them both.

AU PERSONALITY:
Akane's frontal personality remains largely the same. She's approachable, friendly, easy to speak with and trustworthy. Many of her surface traits didn't change much. To others, she'll come off as a shy and awkward girl. Overall, Akane genuinely means well. Without the trauma of being kidnapped and forced to play in a Nonary game, Akane will be less shady. She isn't going to be the mastermind Zero anymore. Her sense of right and wrong haven't divulged into the deep end either. Her peers would just see her as a harmless individual.
However, Akane's core attitude now is completely different from how she is in canon. She wouldn't even try to kill another person or think of it. In fact, it's quite the opposite this time. Akane will believe that it's right to save human lives if you have a chance to. She wouldn't needlessly sacrifice someone for her own goals. Her view changes because she wasn't involved in some grand conspiracy this time. In other words, she became more normal than her original counterpart. There was never a need for her to think of life on a larger scale while manipulating people. Her simple wish to be happy can be accomplished, unlike before.
A big thing to mention would be her fear of traveling. Due to her involvement in a plane accident, Akane becomes terrified at the thought of travelling in any form. She prefers walking or using a bike instead. Her paranoia has caused her to miss out on trips and other adventures, but she doesn't care. It's better to be safe than sorry, right? Akane hides the bruise she received in the accident with long sleeves and dresses. She cares more about her appearance than normal. The fact that Akane's from another country contributes to that further. She doesn't want to make a lot of noise or stand out.

What changed her so drastically overall was her circumstances. Akane never became Zero...or had the potential to become Zero. Her lifestyle was quite simple in comparison. The simplicity of it is what keeps her sane, but she did develop an interest in science nonetheless, similar her canon self. She still adores bunnies and santa clause, likes strange stories and mythology. Most of her surface traits stayed the same, although her motivations did not.
